Folkways and Kilbourne Group will be hosting a walk to explore downtown Fargo and observe the key ingredients for a walkable city. This event is being held on what would have been the 100th birthday of Jane Jacobs. Jacobs’ 1961 book "Death and Life of Great American Cities" changed the dialogue for city design. She proposed that a city needs four ingredients to be exuberant: mixed uses, short blocks, buildings that vary in age and condition, and a dense concentration of people. This honorary walk will explore those design elements present in downtown Fargo.
