We will start at Sunnyslope  Historical Society, pass the Sunnyslope Community Center, Sunnyslope Rock Garden and Norton Park. Immediately following the walk, participants are welcome to meet up for breakfast and conversation at Scramble, 9832 N. 7th St., where walkers will get 15% off their bill.

Join us as we talk about walkability and transit oriented development in Mesa! We will walk both north and south of Main into the neighborhoods to make a “walking audit” of the resources we have around our station areas. Bring your brain power and a mind open to the possibilities of Mesa!

When we return at the end of the walk, we will discuss, draw and write our ideas down.

Downtown Phoenix Jane’s Crawl

Starting in the Central Business District (CBD), we’ll walk through good, bad, and debatable pedestrian infrastructure while we also explore how a few different bars interface with the street and utilize their spaces in creative ways.  This Jane’s Walk will be more of a crawl because we’ll spend enough time at each bar to grab a drink and have discussions.

Time: 7:00pm-9:00pm

Event Route: Begins at Hanny’s (SWC of 1st St & Adams).  End TBD.

METRO Central Mesa/Tempe Streetcar Tour

METRO Central Mesa/Tempe Streetcar Tour

Hosted by METRO, this event offers two possible tours, one of Central Mesa, and one of Tempe. Both tours will start at the Sycamore/Main Street transit center. After the tour, participants can either continue their own exploration using light rail or return to the Sycamore/Main Street transit center via light rail or bus. Both streetcar tours are outlined below.

 

Central Mesa Streetcar Tour

The tour will begin at Sycamore/Main Street transit center and travel along Main Street (Central Mesa extension alignment) via bus. On the bus, participants will learn about the project and the art and architecture concepts proposed. Participants will then disembark  from the bus at Country Club Drive/Main Street and walk to Center Street/Main Street to discuss station identity, sustainable development, transit as a placemark, downtown Mesa as an arts and cultural district. Everyone will then return via walking to Country Club Drive/Main Street to board bus to return to Sycamore/Main Street transit center.

 

Tempe Streetcar Tour

The tour will begin at Sycamore/Main Street transit center and travel via light rail to the Mill Avenue/3rd Street stop to discuss the Tempe Streetcar project. At 3rd/Mill, participants will receive an overview the project and discuss station identity, urban design, transit as a placemaker, transit-oriented development. Participants will then walk to 3rd Street/Ash Aveune to discuss the same concepts for Ash Avenue. At this point, participants can either return to the 3rd Street/Mill Avenue light rail stop to return to Sycamore/Main Street or can continue to explore Tempe or other places along the light rail.

Time: 9:00am-11:30am
