California: Color Block Walk

The City of Long Beach has been working on an Open Space Master Plan for North Long Beach, a community identified by Los Angeles County as having a great need for more park space. Over the past year, thousands have participated in identifying opportunities for new open space, and given that the neighborhood is mostly built-out, participants have had to get creative in locating unconventional and underutilized areas to transform, such as along railways and underneath electric transmission corridors.

The Color Block Walk will be a color walk/run to celebrate all the effort the community has put into planning for the future of open space in North Long Beach. The event route would consist of a short loop around the 91 Freeway, demonstrating the most popular open space idea as voted upon by the community. In addition to a fun event filled with music and color powder similar to a Holi event, the loop will feature interactive material that highlights all of the community's feedback for the Plan.

The event is free and open to the public. Hope to see you there!
