In Elsrijk neighborhood, a reshuffling of community centers is necessary. The reason is that the neighborhood residents, on average, are getting older, their mobility is decreasing, and this makes other types of neighborhoods mixing harder. A second development is that the residents will be in charge of meeting places in the coming future. During the walk we will mix people from local government, professionals from community care organizations, and residents in a walk & talk to find the best choices for the future, to find the right community energy to take the lead in managing these places in the coming years.

In The Netherlands Cities neighborhood the Municipality is looking for new ways for civilians to manage neighborhood meeting places, like accommodations for elderly, youngsters, and so on. The more interesting question is what meeting places people like and need. During this Amstelveen ‘Jane Jacobs Walk’, we will visit such meeting places to talk with people at these places and during the walk. Professionals from the Municipality and others will join the walk to make it a talk of the Town. The hope is that new ideas coupled to civilians will come up and widen the local thought of this matter.
