Levee Disaster Bike Tour 2013

This bike tour will begin at the parking lot of City Park Boat and Bike Rentals at Big Lake Trail. Taking safe biking routes, we will bike to the London Avenue Canal breach (5300 Warrington Drive) in the Filmore Gardens neighborhood of Gentilly and hear a short discussion of the breach disaster. We will visit a pump station and then bike along Lake Pontchartrain to the 17th Street Canal breach (6932 Bellaire Drive) in the Lakeview neighborhood and hear another short discussion of the breach disaster. Finally, we bike back through beautiful City Park. The bike tour is 12 miles. You must bring your own bike.

Time: 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Freretian Walking Tour, New Orleans

Start your Jazzfest Saturday on Freret Street seeing the work of Jane Jacobs in action.

The guided tour starts at 9AM in front of Village Coffee (5335 Freret Street – on the corner of Freret and Jefferson) and ends at 10 am at High Hat Café (4500 Freret).

Led by neighborhood residents and business owners- topics covered will include: a brief history of the area, small business development, zoning, blight, green + new construction techniques, building restoration, tax credits and how these issues relate to, and were impacted by the work Jane Jacobs to create this Freretian renaissance post “K”.

Time: 9 am- 10 am
