You’re a “Gem”

Come out (and bring your family, friends, children, and pets) and honor the legacy of Jane Jacobs as we walk through some of the great Near Eastside neighborhoods. The route is around 2 miles, starting at the John H. Boner Center, and weaving through Woodruff Place and St. Clair Place. The theme, “You’re A Gem”, refers to the idea that everyone in your neighborhood and/or community has something special about them that can help improve the world around us. Join Public Allies-Indianapolis & Health By Design, and identify the gems in these neighborhoods as well as your own!

Time: 10am-1pm

Date: June 15th, 2013

Event Start/End:

We will be in the Woodruff place neighboorhood off of 10th st.  We will have signs and flyers with the walk route on it.

Host: Brittany Sichting, Public Allies Indianapolis

Fight 2 end Animal Cruelty

We will be discussing the effects of Animal Cruelty and how we can prevent the violent terrible things that are happening to our four-legged friends. We will also be able to learn how we can adopt a vegan diet, how to ditch wool, leather and fur, how to ditch all beauty/hair care/hygiene items that test and experiment on animals, how to prevent going to places that promote and produce animal cruelty (such as circuses, most pet stores, animal sports, and Sea World), and even how to stop the horse carriage company and the incidents that occur with horse carriages every year, as well as why we should call exercise “fighting for the animals” and the health/environmental benefits of the vegan diet! This Jane Jacobs Walk is for the animals! The event will take place in May 25, 2013 and October 12, 2013 in honor of Vegetarian Month!

Time: 10:30am – 12:00pm

Date:  May 25, 2013 and October 12, 2013

Event Start/End:

We will start from 56th Broad Ripple Ave to 86th Street.

Near Southside Stroll

Join neighbors, creative thinkers and city lovers for a walking conversation that passes through several neighborhoods in the area just south of Downtown Indianapolis.

The near southside is enjoying much success in some areas and is ripe for continued improvment in others. We’ll look at what’s working (The Cultural Trail and Pleasant Run Greenway are examples we’ll visit) and ways the area could be more walkable, accessible for pedestrians, and improved in other important ways.
Walkers will have two options (both start at Garfield Park Conservatory) for semi-guided walks. One is 3 miles and the other is 6 miles.

Time: 10 a.m.

Date: Saturday, May 4, 2013

Event Start/End:

Garfield Park Conservatory

2505 Conservatory Dr, Indianapolis, IN 46203

Host: Jim Walker, Big Car Collaborative

Theme: Walking

Registration: There is a cap on this event. Please register at: http://janejacobsindy.eventbrite.com
