Sustain the Granary: Exploring the Salt Lake City Granary District

Join the Young Architect’s Forum (YAF) to explore the Granary District. In the spirit of Jane Jacobs, participants will stroll through this dynamic urban village, stopping to tour local highlights and hear the stories of residents, designers and business owners.

The evening kicks off at 6:00pm at Artspace Commons (800 S @ 400 W), where there’ll be a display of architecture projects focused on the Granary District. From there, The Young Architects Forum, in collaboration with SLC Green Drinks, will be hosting a tour of the District (what folks in the know call a “Jane’s Walk”), featuring local businesses and highlighting what’s going right in the neighborhood.

At the heart of it all, is the block party — from 5–8pm — with street performers, food trucks, and live music.

Then, when the sun sets, join us at Frida Bistro — where Local DJs and photographers will showcase a performance peice featuring Granary District images accompanied by sound. And, of course, there’ll be Frida’s incomparable tapas, margaritas, and mexican lagers.

Check out the YAF website at aiautahyaf.org or the YAF Facebook page for more details on the event.

New Dorp: Possibilities for Walkability and Transit in a Railway ‘New Village’

New Dorp is set apart by its architectural characteristics, density, walkability, and independent businesses. Walk with us around New Dorp Lane, the “Main Street” of Staten Island’s East Shore, to learn about the history and visit local businesses, and see tree-lined residential streets and parks. Take part in a mobile discussion and envision how New Dorp and sister railway villages can improve cohesiveness, walkability, transit use and and take advantage of inevitable pressures to densify.

Every day, all over the city, Transportation Alternatives is working to revitalize New York City’s neighborhoods and restore a vibrant culture of street life. This walk features one of the many communities where T.A. advocacy brings safe and healthy streets for all.
