Join us for an East Austin History Walk inspired by Jane Jacobs on Sunday, April 15. Jane Jacobs was a protector of neighborhoods and the people who inhabited them. Come see hidden gems and pockets of history in East Austin. We’ll be going on a “walking conversation” with Dr. Eliot Tretter and Dr. Fred McGhee of UT-Austin, who are knowledgeable and passionate about history and community. Learn about the history of community, public housing, urban renewal, and neighborhood change. Information about the Austin Historical Survey Wiki will also be provided on the tour – learn how you can look up and add information about East Austin history along the way.

To participate, meet in front of Metz Elementary, 84 Robert T. Martinez, Jr. at 10:00 am. Set aside at least 4 hours for the entire tour. We’ll provide information about some of the sites we’ll see along the way. Wear loose clothing, comfortable shoes, and bring a lot of water! We’ll stop for a no-host lunch along the way.
